Blizzard hints at Diablo 3 on console
In an interview with Gamasutra celebrating 15 years of Warcraft, World of Warcraft producer J. Allen Brack has stated the company will definitely return to making console games at some point in the future, despite a 14-year absence from the market (the original Diablo being Blizzards last console project).
In our Evolution of the Diablo technologies article I mention that Diablo 1 was also ported to the popular Sony playstation console although Blizzard decided against this move for Diablo 2 for unbeknown reasons.
Will Blizzard bring the Diablo series back to this generation of consoles? Is there a RPG player market on PS3, Xbox 360 or Nintendo wii for a game like Diablo 3?
On thing is for sure, if Blizzard wanted to differentiate their game further from Torchlight at a higher level than gameplay, console versions is one way to do it.
“We’re a company of gamers,” Brack said. “I have two consoles at home. Sam [Didier, art director] has consoles. We’re a culture of gamers. We will definitely work on a console game at some point. I have no doubt about that. It’s just [a matter of] what game. What makes the most sense?”
Im sure there’s plenty of gamers hoping that Blizzard thinks Diablo 3 on console makes sense…
